Uglies is about a world where everyone is changed to a pretty when they turn sixteen. The reason for this is so everyone can feel equal. People won't be judged by what they look like. The pretties try and live life to the fullest and dont really mind the change around them, or notice.
The main character is Tally Youngblood, she is fifteen waiting for her sixteenth birthday to turn pretty. She's excited,so she watches where the prettys party and hang out. Her friend Peris turned pretty before her, and she's lost without him. They were best friends and she cant wait until they're together again.
Tally meets a girl that happens to have the same birthday as her. They become friends fast and play tricks and cause the normal ''ugly'' trouble. Shay,her new friend, is different then he other friends. She takes Tally to the Rusty Rains to tell her about this mysteriousl place called Smoke where uglies live like normal. Tally doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't want to turn pretty.
Tallys birthday comes around and she is ready to do her peration and turn pretty, but she sadly finds out that she can't turn pretty until she finds Shay, who has ran away and leads the Specials to the Smoke. Tally rufuses to, until she figured out that she won't be able to live the life she wants unless she does this. So she agrees to do find Shay and the people of Smoke.
After Tally finds the people of Smoke, she realizes that the people aren't so bad and niether is the lifestyle. Unexpectedly she starts to care for these people and doesn't want to expose them.
